Totally Awesome Console Ideas!

None of my ideas are remotely like a PC, except the gamepad support and remappable controls.

If the external box can't play PC games then its not a PC. but if it can play PC games then it could still potentially bring droves of people into PC gaming because they'd no longer need a high spec PC no would they have to take their PC apart. Its basically an external upgrade. Which when I put it that way has probably been thought of before but there are probably some strings attached. I'm talking about all the components packed into a box. The pc is only used for its monitor and internet connection. I guess its like onlive in a way, but instead of a server, its a box.

well some people argue that consoles are just midrange pc's... except that consoles don't play pc games.. so yes, being able to play pc games is one way to draw a line as to whether it's a pc or console.

There are reasons behind the console market existing, so the question is whether a console you attach to a PC would appeal to the console demographic. I actually think it would. Personally I considered attaching a Gamecube to a PC monitor once and playing right here at the desk. (does that count as PC gaming too?) The problem is that I've have to disconnect the monitor from the PC which is a lot bigger hassle than simply changing the video signal on a TV. Therefore, what if the console was sort of like an external DVD drive; something that actually talks to the PC and brings up a window rather than a completely separate thing.

It's surprising how there are so many variations of that console. I bought two consoles which look entirely different (one which uses a keyboard), but they play the same games and have the gun thing.
