When a mii is moving his arms with white puffs of smoke he is obviously mad visit him and see what happened and if there are purple swirls there is a chance that the mii has been rejected in a proposal to cure it there is a purple bar where the experience is it will decrease when you make your mii happy

How do the buildings actually work? I have a tv station, a fountain thingy and the food store. But what do they actually do?

they have this fund collection event that will only occur once a day~!

food = buy food and feed them when they are hungry! you can level up in such manner

one of the shop above food shop is for you to resell the items you collected/given to you by mii

actually how to unlock shops are pretty simple
try to solve your mii's problem and try to make a few more mii
