What does this error mean, is it safe to install or better download the game again from another source ?

Try installing it with Goldbricks or Awoo Installer. If they fails, then maybe the NSZ is a bad dump or is corrupted

If i had to guess, someone made an NSZ from the XCI version of the game and it is not a legit eshop dump

I mean I have the option to disable NCA signature check in the settings yet I'm worried about bricking my console. So maybe I should just download the game again from another source .

I have not heard of any nsp bricks in a long time, let alone it being used on a title like layton

Go to options, Enable "Install Unsigned Code" it will ask you to input the konami code, UP UP DOWN DOWN LEFT RIGHT LEFT RIGHT B A +
