What the hell? I'd love to see that beast up and running!

I just did a clean install from XP to Windows 7 Professional x64 yesterday. I never had Vista so it's a big leap for me. I love it so far. The OS is really well done. There's no reason not to upgrade (except money wise, if you don't have the money to shell out).

I'm running

2.6Ghz Core 2 Duo
8800GT
2GB DDR2 RAM

Win 7 runs around 30% faster as vista 64 did on this pc and im gaining around 12 to 30 fps in most games at maxed settings.

also anything that works on XP works on win 7.
crazy PC
also you are gonna miss out on DX11!!!

xp drivers wont work on win 7

I have heard some vista drivers do though (supposedly)

windows 7 ultimate, thats like the full version of windows vista.. you can say vista was the beta to let people get familiar with windows 7.. ultimate cause its very stable i have it too, it works like a charm

if anyone is interested, i've got tiny7 installed on my current lappy. it idles at about 300mb~. though eXPerience rates it at 150mb~. stock 7 ultimate idles at about 850mb~. its a lot faster than stock xp with all the bloat and a hell of a lot faster than vista.

I can confirm that vista drivers work in windows 7. It does so flawlessly.

Win7 X64 is really usefull if you have much RAM (best 4GB Ram and above) that´s why you should have more RAM for the X64 version (to use the full potential) otherwise you can just use the x86 version. Especially since some porgramms are still not supporting the x64 OS.

I would suggest Windows 7 Home Premium (Has all needed feutures) 64 bit (for your amount of ram you could do with 64 bit)

I'll stay with XP for a while if I were you because of the compatability

Win 7 has all of XPs compatibility if you get the Virtual PC and the XP Mode. It even integrates programs install on the VM into Win7's start menu.

+1. Yes, I was planning to upgrade my Home Premium Vista to Ultimate 7 but then I ran the Intel Virtualization Tool; turns out my processor doesn't support it. D:

So check before grabbing Ultimate because that's really the only difference between Ultimate 7 and Home Premium 7.

Intel Virualization Tool Once You install and execute it, click on the "CPU Technologies" tab. Then look and see under "Intel® Virtualization Technology"
