Thread views aren't updating

The thread views aren't updating. I've seen one with 4 replies and 0 views according to the forum.

They take a while to update, its not an instant thing.

How on earth does that save cpu time or bandwidth to the SQL server etc. It still has to log thread views and still has to access the thread views. I'd think it'd be LESS efficient because the SQL server would have to keep two copies of the thread views.
