In Spain and some southamerica countries is called «cider potato» here at my country is called simply cidra (cider), in mexico is know as Chayote; it is a bitter Sweet fruit which can be found on the wild as undergrowth

yes, raw is almost flavorless, is manly used to cook as filling. also cut raw on strips and spiced with lemon is used as hard liquor side companion.
