Okay, I haven't updated my R4 in a while.

I have a question though..has Yasu's R4bugfix been applied to the newest firmware yet? Which is what, 1.18?

Because if it isn't updated, I won't update my firmware until he does. That fix helped a TON of games with code issues.

I'm a complete noob at all of this, I've downloaded and extracted the CHEAT.DAT file. Do I just simply drag and drop it into the route of the transflash or do I need so make separate folder(s)?

Also with applications such as pocket physics, do I just put them onto the route of the transflash?

Ok folks, here is how the game ID is determined. thfirt 4-5 letters that in the Game ID is the region code as well as an identifier for the actual game. The last digit is the region while the ones before it, is the game identifier. If the last digit is a P, its European, E is USA, J is Japanese and so on. The 8 alphanumeric characters that follow that, normally separated by a space or hyphen, is the games checksum. Basically the checksum is a unique hash created from the games core files to differentiate different versions of the game, edited games, ect. Editing a game changes the checksum, so translating a game, undubbing it, ect all changes the games checksum. So if you modify the game, the Game ID changes so no codes will show up for the game since the game ID is different than the original.

The 8 alphanumeric characters that follow is not necessary for the game to detect the cheats, all you need is the first 4-5 Letters.
for example, if the game id for a (J) version is ABCJ - 12345678, and a translated english version of the (J) version is ABCJ - 87654321
all you need is for the game id is ABCE, then both versions will be able to detect the cheats without changing the whole game id for each game.

So, in r4cce, under game id, you could just enter ABCJ, leave the 8 #s field empty and it'll fill up with 00000000 by the software.

I thought it was determined that Yasu's bugfix has been causing crashing issues with some cheats on firmware 1.18.

I thought it was determined that Yasu's bugfix has been causing crashing issues with some cheats on firmware 1.18.

Yea, from what I can tell, certain games like Metroid Prime Hunters and such end up crashing with the cheats with any version of the R4 kernel patched by the Bugfix, not only 1.18. When I tried 1.18 and 1.17 without the patch, the games worked fine, with the patch, the games crashed, no matter what cheats we're used. Its a strange problem and I have no idea what could be causing it, perhaps the size of the cheat file?

Sadly, I don't see that ever happening. The R4 team seems to have resigned themselves to periodically releasing compatibility updates and thats just about it.

I have a really weird question, the _DS_MENU.SYS keeps on showing up and recreating itself even after I delete it on my R4. After I deleted it, the game would take a second to recreate itself whenever I get to the main menu.

Thats because its a needed R4 system file. It creates the file if its ever missing. Though it should be deleted if you ever patch or edit the _DS_MENU.DAT file or if ou upgrade/downgrade the firmware so it can be recreated a new to prevent problems.

wait, this is a stupid question, but is it a firmware update that fixes the SDHC support, or is it a hardware upgrade, I really don't want to buy a new R4 just to play more games...
