Yeah, COBOL is still all over the financial sector, much less common than it used to be, but it's still there running ... We had 2 servers for a couple of the smaller building societies. The actual coding was done and maintained by a guy called crazy bob. I really should do a blog or two on him :/ But he had left 10 years before I joined, and eventually was tasked with a feasibility study on replacing it as they were spending a small fortune on 3rd maintenance contracts, which meant learning COBOL. Well, my recommendation was "if it's not broke, don't fix it " and took over the maintenance and moved it over to a VM rather than running on 90 hardwarethe only person I know who coded in cobol is so old she cannot even effectively use a modern computer anymore
