The edges are still within the standard diameter of a CD. The shape is cut out of a standard CD. This means these CDs have a smaller capacity, but they look neat.
But with it being a custom shape, it means that slot-loading CD players or external optical drives like Apple's SuperDrive will have problems trying to align the disc to the center.

Yes. But screw Apple :tpi:
Back when this was a thing the vast majority of people had tray loading CD drives (AKA cup holders), or those laptop drives with the grippy spindle.

At least that one is symmetrical and looks balanced, won't start wobbling when you spin it up.
Tray loading and top loading CD players had zero problems with these type of discs. I know. I was there.
