Too many cooks spoil the broth. But nothing is ruined. Now just get yourself an SD card, and use Modmii. It's really not complicated at all... just follow the prompts. Even if you were to make a mistake in one of your choices, Modmii would never cause your hacks to ruin your Wii. It's foolproof.

Once the Wii is hacked properly with the latest hacks and ios (for his chosen system menu), it's a piece of cake to use the latest emulators. Why make life harder than it needs to be?

I think I made it as easy as possible, no updating the Wii, no buying a $5 SD card, just download the IOS58 installer and connect the wii to the internet. Install IOS58 and update the hbc. Modmii is always there if he wants to upgrade to a usb loader.

Yeah your advice was certainly best, I was surprised that people were telling him to update the Wii over Wi-fi causing him to lose his stuff. There are ALOT of tutorials online that conflict due to people trying to cover too many methods at one time, but some people just shouldn't give advice and call it factual.

Besides, I had emulators running before IOS58 was installed, so technically he could have possibly run some of the emulators as it was. But getting an SD card is certainly advised.

You can still install IOS58 and install the latest hbc if you want to play emulators. No need to update your Wii system menu, just deny a system update if you see one.

1. You can get the IOS58 installer from wiibrew - http://wiibrew.org/wiki/IOS58_Installer.
2. run the installer from your hbc (don't update hbc yet), this will install IOS58, you will need your wii connected to the internet.
3. yes, you can use your usb device, when you connect your usb device, while in the homebrew channel you need to press the "1" button on the wii remote to get to the usb device.
4. Now, with your Wii still connected to the internet, launch hbc and update the hbc (not your Wii) when prompted to.

I have no problem with your info, it's was with fishaman p's advice and his insistence op update his sm before hbc. Op did so and lost hbc (gee, who would have thought). Op doesn't have a sd, so now he had to buy one so he can letterbomb the wii.

The best course of action, aside from just following modmii, would have been to update hbc, leaving it to still run on ios61. Update the sm, which would leave the new hbc intact and install ios58 in the process. He could then run hackmii installer off of usb and reinstall hbc to get it to run on ios58.

The only part I may be wrong on is him reinstalling it for ios58. Iirc hbc has had usb app support for a long time. Ios58 just brings usb2.0 speeds to the table.

While I admit fault for not reading he was short of an SD, I don't see why my advice was bad. His SM was ancient; SDHC and WM+ games were broken, for one thing.
As I already said, while I'm a fan of Modmii, it's simply overkill if you're not running a USB loader or the like. The SM update was for the reasons above and also to easily install IOS58.

And yeah, the only reason I recommended updated the SM before the HBC was because I thought he had an SD. If I knew that the OP didn't, I would have recommended HBC->SM->HBC.

In case anyone is confused about the HBC and USB, it's had USB support since ~1.0.4 IIRC; IOS58 just enables USB 2.0 (essential for loading apps and ROMs off USB) and I think AHBPROT too.

1) Update Wii over Wi-Fi
2a) If HBC still installed, do HBC update over Wi-Fi
2b) If HBC gone, use an exploit like Letterbomb or Smash Stack to launch HBC installer
3) Install Bootmii as IOS

As I said, I don't have a SD card, just a 32GB cellphone that I can connect via USB. What's the procedure?

.. . There's no reason to NOT update hbc first, ever, as a worst case scenario safeguard.

Sm version is irrelevant, especially considering he doesn't have ANY sd, and just wants to emulate.

And modmii does a lot more than just help set up usb loaders. Most nooks would be lost without it since it auto generates guides.

Hello! I'm back. I got my old SD back (still has some HBC emulators from late 2008, he). So, what's the conclusion? What now? Modmii? Letterbomb? (I don't even know what these things are). Would like to add that I want to reproduce videos and play ISOs from USB (in case that changes what I have to do).
