NuDoom actually is not just an alternate universe, but also D:E goes further and states that the demons of "hell" you've been fighting are in fact inhabitants of a realm in the Universe known as Otherspace. The technoangels you briefly see in the more recent trailers are Aliens from another part of the galaxy that is closer to the center (basically they are from the galactic inner rim), and they not only have mapped much of the galaxy and several parts of interstellar space, but they are currently in a centuries-long war against the demons. "Hell" turns out to be one of many lower planes of space that can be called "otherspace"

    If your throat closes, putting oxygen in your mouth will not solve anything - as you will be introducing oxygen prior to the area of obstruction
