Elgato is just a bit above the Hauppauge because it does not require its own power supply and you can play through it without being connected to a computer.

The BlackMagic Intensity is the top line for any capturing. I have yet to see an equivalent piece of hardware, especially the USB3.0 model.

I've used an HD-PVR (older 1212 non-gaming model) and just got a Blackmagic Intensity Pro, and both devices offer outstanding quality for game recording, though I haven't had a chance to try HD recording on the Intensity Pro yet since my extra HDMI cables aren't here yet. I'll update this when I've tried it.
