It might have been jaw dropping if they'd released it in 84 as originally planned and not held it back for several years, but not so much when it finally was released.

And that Amstrad thing reminds me of some of those rejected SNES prototypes some magazines published drawings of.
The 7800's games were comparable and occasionally better than NES ones graphics-wise, although the console would probably blow people's minds if it was released in 84 indeed. As for the Amstrad, yes, it looks like something futuristic, much like the SNES prototypes. :D

I voted the casio, but only because whoever created the poll missed out the genius that was the Amstrad GX4000!

That should have been an amazing system. The Amstrad computers pretty much dominated any other 8 bit computer. Rarely does the best system win, it's more about the money the company is willing to spend promoting it.

The GX4000, and the C-64GS, showed the perceived value of the next console generation.

The cut-off has to be somewhere, y'know? I tried to limit the entries to 5 or 6 otherwise it's a bloated poll. I'm even considering removing some of the lesser known consoles from the mix because it seems people just vote for the things they've never heard of.

There is that. But surely the ones that people haven't heard of are going to get the most votes. They haven't heard of them because they were shyte!

Yeah. I probably won't remove them. I'll just be disappointed if the Casio PV-1000 'wins' the competition. (I'm pretty sure the Virtual Boy is going to win the day though)

I wonder how the votes will turn out if PV-1000 is excluded from voting.

I know I'd vote for 7800 in that case. Didn't do much beside allowing 2600's game to be played

What I voted for. Never heard of/tried the PV-1000 up till the poll so it seems unfair to vote - it could've been my all time fave console if I'd owned one (after googling it I do have to say that would've been unlikely though! )

7800 then. We had a good list of games when we picked one of these up, Food Fight in particular was a fave - probably the best on the machine for our family. Other notables were a decent (built-in if I remember) rendition of Asteroids, and light gun games Crossbow & Alien Brigade (which after revisiting on an emu recently, er, haven't really aged that well hehe). But, side by side with an NES or Master System and it looked a joke: woefully underpowered, very little support, and basically bar a handful of fun titles (and of course 2600 carts running on it), it was a clear last place for me.
