I'm not sure why threads like this ever crop up.

Posting your specs in these is like Instagram-ing (is word?) your food. Yeah, it's generally accepted as an OK thing to do, but really, no one gives a shit.

Still nice to know.

Oh, and post yours or leave.

The same can be said of most threads (like the post your desktop thread), but GBAtemp is also a technology forum and people like to show off their stuff. Honestly I find it interesting to see what other members are using and maybe get some ideas about what I should add to my computer when I make one.

I'm looking into getting an 840 like yours, so, is the slower read speed noticeable in everyday use?

I had an 840 in my old laptop (that I'm debating on whether I'll put it in this new one) and the slower read speeds weren't really all that noticeable, or at least I didn't notice much of a decrease (though to be fair, I was using it with Linux Mint, so that might have something to do with it...)

Pentium 4 3.2ghz Hyper-threaded with 1mb L2 cache
2gb pc3200 (DDR-400) RAM
400gb ATA-100 Hard Drive
USB-DVD+/-RW drive (don't remember the speed but the internal one broke.)
3.5in floppy drive (had a 5.25in one, too, but it didn't fit in my new case and then I lost it.)
AGP 8X Radeon X1950 GX overclocked video card.
600 watt power supply (unfortunately, not enough for the video card)

Misc. Sucky specs : USB2.0, PCMCIA Wireless B card (WEP 48-bit only), 2 monitors @ 1280x1024, Analog TV tuner card w/passthrough audio, 2 unused SATA-150 only ports

That's the most powerful thing I got. (got another desktop and 2 Atom based netbooks but all of them are less than half of that one.)

Well my primary machine is a Macbook Pro from 2010ish.
CPU: 2.6GHz 64bit Intel i5
GPU: NVIDIA GeForce GT 330M, and an Intel HD Graphics
RAM: 8GB DDR3
HD: 320GB with 2tb NAS
all running on either (OSX) 10.6.8 or Debian via rEFIt
Its a great machine, however after 3 years the battery only lasts for 3-4 hours text editing/programming
and about running other games the battery drops to around 1-2 hours max.
My experimental machine is all salvaged equipment,
An old core 2 duo (64bit!!) ~1.86GHz
2GB DDR2 Ram
40GB Harddrive
INTEL GRAPHICS GMA 950a
No Optical
No CD/DVD
No Sound Card
OS: Slacko Puppy Linux 5
Its a miracle that the thing even boots, but it was free. Salvaged from relatives "dead" computers

Not at all... I have an 128GB Pro version, which has slower write speeds compared to the 256GB version. But that doesn't bother to me since I only use it as a boot drive.
Anyway, you wont notice any difference in real life usage. Just make sure (if you're going to use Windows) to tweak the OS to properly work with an SSD.
The 840 comes comes with Samsung Magician, which has an auto-tune option for Windows... but I prefer to do that manually.

OS: Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit
Language: Japanese (Regional: Japanese)
Processor: AMD E-350 Processor (2CPU) ~1.6GHz
Ram: 4GB
Display: AMD Radeon HD 6310 Graphics
I know my laptop is :p1ng2::whip:
