Hacking System Wad Ash Files

EDIT: Didn't realize BFGR is for packing/unpacking wads, not u8.

Did you figure anything out with this, WiiShizzza? I thought I saw a custom bootscreen with your name on it. Could you explain your process? I know this will be much easier with Crediar's Preloader 0.25.

BFGR WADTools is for decompressing WADs (and packing them)..

WHY CAN'T CREDIAR RELEASE ANY SOURCE CODE!?!?

Not that I know much about it.. but I did read some stuff yesterday about the .ash files and "recompressing" them...

There is no such thing as an ASH recompressor from what I understand that it's not even necessary to repack cursor.ash..supposedly you can pretty much put anything in there... that was according what I read on #wiidev... so don't hold it too much against me... the closest thing for it is a tool only for linux and mac os... I have the one for Linux...but have been reluctant to take a peek at it because I haven't booted into my Ubuntu lately..too lazy!

Basically... I will let the gurus handle the system menu.wad... It's really too risky.

if you pack a sysmenu WAD yourself from a NANDDump with preloader, I think you should be fine.

Did you make it by just not recompressing it, or did you figure out which packers to use where and repack and recompress it to the original size?

I'm going to try making one without recompressing tonight...

After replacing the TPL in health.arc, am I supposed to just replace health.ash with health.arc in the 01.app, or do I need to change the extension back to .ash?

Also, what packer do you use to repack the 01.app? gally's gave a runtime error. =P

yaz0 does workout very very good. But it's sooo d*mn slow.

Sorry to bump this thread but,
I want do modify: it_Has_a_EU_FRA.tpl on a 3.2E System Menu with Preloader which I took useing FS Browser.
Is it possible to recover from a brick if I install the modified System Menu because what I'm thinkin if the TPL is broken and I press RESET on startup to go to Preloader Menu and boot directly to the Homebrew Channel and reinstall the original System Menu that I would recover. Is this possible?

And one last question. Once I modify the TPL how do I pack it back with u8pack.exe with this:http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?4zjltzomz1i to Health.arc? And I am supposed to repack it to ASH using yaz0 enc from: http://www.amnoid.de/gc/ ?

you can. ASH is not yaz0. Preloader can not help you recover from these type of bricks, only bootmii.
