Homebrew System update error

On a N3DSXL I was using Animal Crossing Happy Home Designer to update to 9.8, and after it finished, the system went black. I turned it on and it said it was preparing the home menu, but it went away quickly and stayed at a black screen. If I go into safe mode and try updating from there, it says that an error occurred updating and the system will now shut down.

edit: I believe I also had the tubehax DNS on, and menuhax was also installed.

Any ideas?

menuhax is probably messing with it... hold on

try turning the console on without the microsd card. if it works, then put it in (while at the Home Menu), go to Home Menu Settings, and Change Theme. change it to something else.

I haven't actually tried this, but it might remove menuhax.
