Hmm so there are softmodders who update their Wii? That seems a little weird. I'm still on 3.2 and don't see the point in updating beyond that
  • Proper USB2 support with IOS58.
  • New, and supposedly better, wifi-driver in many IOS.
  • SDHC support.
... not just anti piracy stuff.
You forgot starting VC and Wiiware games from SD card through the System Menu.

I really don't get why anybody would stick to 3.2.
4.1 I get, after that there are no new features. But 3.2? Why?

I'm on 4.2U and updating seems pointless to me... So right now the only thing you need to update your shop channel is Shop Channel V20 with IOS56 V5662? Will it work with V5661?

It works with v5661.

Well, I guess he can try it out with v5661 first. But from what I read... well, here's the quotes:

Download and install IOS56 v5662 (lastest version @ NUSD) too. Or Wii Shop Channel will boot to a #002 error.

ok I installed shopping channel v20 and it does infact need the latest ios56...
I can second that the Shop Channel V20 works perfectly with IOS56 V5661. V5662 is not needed to run it.

He did say update his Wii, not update his System Menu. Nowadays, there exists no sane, and non paranoid, reason for not doing it the official way, thus updating all of your non-b0rked IOS:es.

So updating his Wii will also give him the new and better IOS:es.

Sorry for bumping an old thread. But I just want to make sure. I updated to the previous 4.3 menu (6/21/2010) then used smash stack to download hbc. Performing a wii system update straight from the console is perfectly safe?

Edit:
dammit, nevermind. I already have this update anyway. Ignore me.
