how can you tell which version of (fireware) 3.3 you are on, and am i correct in saying 3.3 will let you install Custom ios's but 3.3v2 will not is this correct.
also how can i install a custom ios's (Cios249r7) without downgrade from 3.4 - can it be done

Why would you want to stay on 3.4? Just downgrade it to 3.2. Follow this tutorial if you're on 3.4 and you want to downgrade to 3.2 and install cIOS 249.
