Hi all,

Just a word of warning - I'm a complete noob when it comes Nintendo 3ds in general so please forgive me for any basic questions.

So i followed the guide at 3DS hacks guide website (the forum won't allow me to paste links as I am a new member) to install homebrew and even though it took me a while i finally got there in the end. I was even able to install freeshop in working order.

However, an oversight on my part was that i did it all on my 4GB SD card that came with the 3ds. I've since purchased a 32gb micro SDHC card. I don't want to mess it up now so could someone please point me to which part of the guide i need to follow to redo any work to make sure the CFW and freeshop works on the new SD card?

Also how do i transfer my saves to the SD card?

You can just copy the files over to the new SD card, but I personally suggest doing a few extra steps to ensure your new SD card is properly setup for the 3DS.
Backup your first your current SD card onto your computer.
Make sure your new SD card is formatted with to FAT32. From there setup just Luma3DS and with GM9 as the payload (or just copy over the Luma3DS setup from your backup.) that's all you need to format the SD card.
From there follow the setups in The Guide (I will post them, just wanted to credit the Guide.)

  1. Launch GodMode9 by holding (Start) during boot
  2. Press (Home) to bring up the action menu
  3. Select “More…”
  4. Select “SD format menu”
  5. Select any EmuNAND options you wish to use
    • Most users will want to select “No EmuNAND”
  6. Select “Auto”
  7. Press (A) to accept the label GM9SD
    • Optionally, you may input a custom name for the SD card
  8. When prompted, input the key combo given to confirm
This will properly the format and optimize the SD card the 3DS. After you've done all of these sets, then restore your SD card backup from your PC to the newly formatted SD card.

If you mean sd card, technically infinite, but it doesn't work too well past 128gb. It just needs to be formatted to fat32.
Not infinite, FAT32 only supports 2^32 sectors which has an upper limit of 2TB.

QQ on this...

How big of a video card can I use on my 3DS? Is there a limit?
How big of a micro/SDXC card depends on how deep is your wallet goes.

The 3DS and all iterations has a 300 game limit per system, that means your practical limit on the size of the micro/SDXC card you should get is either a 200GB sandisk or a 256GB microSDXC depending on what games you install. A 400GB or 512GB will leave you with too much empty space that you will not be able to use due to the 3DS game limit.

Any micro/SDXC 64GB or higher will require one of the custom FAT32 formater.
