I am running Version 5.1.0 with SX OS and loaded up the .xci file for octopath traveler. When I launched it from SX OS I was told there was an update for the game but in order to get the game update I must first update my System.

Are there any negative consequences of updating the system? Will SX OS loose ability to function? Can Microsoft tell that I am running SX OS? etc etc

Also, if updating the System is a bad option -> is there a way to still receive the update for Octopath Traveler?

If you update via official means, you risk a ban because it involves connecting to Nintendo's online servers and normal/soft bans now prevent game updates. Your alternative is to download the Octopath Traveler update files in .NSP format and install them using either the title manager built into SX OS or Tinfoil (recommended).

I'm sure a quick google search can turn up the results needed for the Octopath update in nsp format.

Is there a way to "install" the Switch Update file w/o connecting to the Microsoft servers? Or is there a way to "block" my switch from connecting to the servers?

If you download it from your computer then install it offline via your Switch, then that doesn't involve connecting the console online.

No those are considered copyrighted content and has be to downloaded from a designated warez site which cannot be shared here, even through PM. You will have to scour the Internet on your own.

Got ya - I did not realize those files had to be obtained through warez sites as well. I've got a few up my sleeve to locate the file.

Thanks for the knowledge!

@Draxzelex -> I used ChoiDujourNX to install the firmware files, then selected to shut down my switch but now the switch will not power back on....

EDIT -
I held the power button for 30 seconds and then used SX OS to boot. I was able to select the Boot Custom Firmware option, but once that is pressed the screen goes black and never comes back on...

What version of SX OS are you using?

You should be about as safe with your Nintendo Switch connecting to Microsoft servers to update as your iPhone is likely to get updated by Blackberry... so don't worry, you're good! B-)

I normally don't mock people over a little mistake but you called it 'Microsoft servers' even after Draxzelex said 'NINTENDO SERVERS' and then you asked a million more questions that are literally answered everywhere else... forgive me for losing the desire to get more involved.

Maybe Google 'laziness' and 'attention to detail' before you decide if hacking your Microsoft Switch is worth it or not.

@AncientBoi, Yeah, believe you can do PSP games as well. But a Pi5 is much powerful in comparison.

Not sure about other models of Pi4 but the Pi 4 B with 8GBs OCed to 2Ghz handles PSP really great except like 1 game I found and it is playable it just looks bad lol Motor Storm Arctic something or other.
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
Other games I can have turned up to like 2X and all kinds of enhancements, Motorstorm hmmm nope 1X and no enhancements lol

I will admit that one does seem more interesting than the usual Ambernic ones, and I already liked those.

    I dread the price point.

This looks like one of their premium models, so... $150 :glare:

    To me that seems reasonable.
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
I mean since basically all the games are errmmm free lol
  • Veho @ Veho:
I mean yeah sure but the specs are the same as a $50 model, it's just those pesky "quality of life" things driving up the price, like an actually working speaker, or buttons that don't melt, and stuff like that.

I think all in my Pi 4 was well north of 200 bucks 150ish for the Pi 4 the case the fancy cooler, then like 70 for the 500GB MicroSD then like 70 for the Xbox controller. But honestly it's a nice set up I really enjoy and to me was worth every penny. (even bought more controllers for 2 or 4 player games.) hmmm have never played any 2 player games yet :(
  • Veho @ Veho:
Yeah that's what I hate about the RPi, it's supposedly $30 or something but it takes an additional $200 of accessories to actually turn it into a working something.
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
yes that's the expensive part lol
  • Veho @ Veho:
I mean sure it's flexible and stuff but so is uremum but it's fiddly.
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
Yeah a lot of it I consider a hobby, using Batocera I am constantly adjusting the collection adding and removing stuff, scraping the artwork. Haven't even started on some music for the theme... Also way down the road I am considering attempting to do a WiiFlow knock off lol
  • Veho @ Veho:
I want everything served on a plate plz ktnx, "work" is too much work for me.
  • Veho @ Veho:
Hmm, with that in mind, maybe a complete out-the-box solution with all the games collected, pacthed and optimized for me would be worth $150

Yeah it's all choice and that's a good thing :)
