does anyone know a good retail game, with 4.1.0 or lower, to test my pro controller with? it seemed to perform normally in the test option on the switch itself. should I just assume that it's functioning correctly if it worked correctly several times with each directional button? or, would it be better to test an actual game?

In the test menu you need to alternate the presses, such as pressing back and forth between left and right or up and down a bunch of times as quickly as possible and if you have a bunch of false inputs you have the problem d-pad.

do you mean roll your finger? I tried different button presses, but I can't recall if I did that. I did try a diagonal press. that read as both right and down, so it didn't know which direction I was pressing. I'll try that tomorrow sometime though. :D

Not really roll, but it can be done without removing your thumb from the d-pad. Just focus on one axis at a time. I was able to confirm I did in fact have a shitty one by doing this. Tetris or Street Fighter could probably give you an idea as well.

all seems good. I tested it this morning. I don't have either of those games, only Odyssey. I'll probably buy a second game soon, though. I'm just hesitant to update. I need a second system first. I do plan to update the system that I have, but I don't want to lock myself out of doing hacks. though, I realize that every current system should be hackable, just not at the same time. that's why I need a second "current" system on 4.1.0 (what my system is on). I really like how you can easily unplug/plug the switch in without fiddling with cables which is a pita with my entertainment center and not being able to see back behind there. :P but anyway, I'll buy a second game soon that utilizes the dpad. I was thinking about tropical freeze since it does have some up and down movements aside from moving right (mostly). I know that game very well after having beaten it countless times on the wii u. :)

I'm pretty happy with the PowerA wired controller I picked up at Wal Mart for 25 bucks. I got the Zelda version

Pros:
  • Low price point (it is 30 bucks at GameStop)
  • D pad and face buttons not too squishy, highly responsive
  • Shoulder buttons and triggers are comfortable
  • Analog stick motions are smooth and grip well
  • Plug & Play with my Android TV, probably other untested platforms
  • Included micro USB cable is 8 ft
Cons: (which are not cons for me)
  • Wired
  • No rumble
  • No motion controls

I spoke too soon. I've encountered a few problems with the dpad (mostly pushing down and it reading left). it's only happened a few times. I was playing ys viii, so it wasn't quite as much of a problem. however, I shiver at what issues I might have with say mega man x collection. I would buy an adapter for the wii u pro controller, but then I'd miss out on motion controls. is there a sku for models with the fixed dpad?

The amount of times the fix has been posted, and yet people still complain about it all the time.

It's not even like a special screwdriver is needed, or a special kind of tape.
