I took the free Switch online trials but never paid for the service. The lag is too intense for my standards.
Never played Smash or Splatoon online.
Diablo III was fine though. Tetris is as well (lol).
It's 20 bucks here for a year in Germany so honestly: It's a no brainer, no matter how bad it is. Had to pay 5 $ (or more) for a Virtual Console game on previous Nintendo consoles. Having those NES and SNES games alone is worth it.
Not for me actually (using RetroArch in emuNAND) but for those who don't use a CFW I'd say it's worth it.
The netcode might still suck though. Maybe that's why I don't even want to bother with Smash online.

The Switch Online is bad. The lag is worse than the Wii U. You can't blame Nintendo for the connection as it is exclusively P2P and the only factors are people's connection on one end or another.
Nintendo shouldn't make you pay for a P2P service which doesn't cost them anything to maintain...

Agreed, that why I try to buy all my games on disc, Xbox anyways. Switch games (which I pirate tbh) don't matter much, I stay offline 24/7 anyways.+1

You can buy drm free games / music / ebooks, and if you keep backups of your data (like documents and family photos etc), then you shouldn't lose the game. but with a disk, your toddler could put it in the toaster and there goes your $60
