Can someone tell me how much a modchip usually costs?
I’m not whining about soldering and I would take the risk if it’s needed;

hard to say, development costs, production, costs all play a factor, that being said modchips have ranged from $5 to $150 in the past, common more popular ones normally around $40-60

It's most probably a modchip.

It will probably be relatively easy to install.
It may need a case mod to fit(Although I haven't jumped inside a switch to see 'room') But I have had external mods before.
Price? Being first to market, and depending on the solution you could expect anywhere from US$30-75 if it requires a programmer as well(probably will). It will probably get cloned and be released cheaper(If it's easy to clone the original price will probably be cheaper than I posted).
Is that enough speculation?

They're a business, it makes no sense for them to research and make a software solution which would be free. While no one knows for sure, If I was to put a wager on...

Maybe $200 installed, the original JTAG cost the installer about $2. It only really got dearer when it moved to RGH. Which needed a Glitch Chip and a Nand reader/Writer. (which paired together you could get for around US$20-30) The install cost was high because of the time involved. Even higher if you wanted a Dual Nand solution.

3games=$180. so the switch tag will be expensive and will probably require cutting the plastic or mounting an extra case

i guess it will depends depending on country and tax rate and installation service and especially hiring of iron solderer if you do not know how to solder but i'd say about 64.5 pounds

Yeah this seems about right. I'm sure it will be at least $199 at launch, could even be a bit more. Just using the simple reasoning that thats about the cost of 3 new games. You're already selling to hardcore pirates since no normal person will want to break open the console. I doubt there will be any competitors for awhile too so it'll be open season for them.
