Well they did mention that nintendo network id was not the same used on switch and wii u, maybe this is part of the reason why? I dunno, but if it is, sounds like the situation is coming together to understand better.

All switch users need nintendo id, not NNID, which 3ds/wii u has. So having any relevance is probably not gonna happen, even with creating a account with your previous NNID like on the website.

Yeah, but I mean, people were making uproar and saying "finally purchases linked to an account and not hardware". No matter if the concept or name changes, it's still a fact that it's already possible with 3DS and Wii U.

Well, that's a first, and just another step in the wrong direction for Nintendo. Before, on the 3DS, as long as I was playing on a physical cartridge, I could easily switch playing between 3DS units. More importantly, I could leave one of my 3DS'es un-updated, to ensure I still had access to Homebrew Launcher, and easy save backup/import. But with the Switch's cards being non-writable, all that becomes more complicated by default. Nintendo just keeps giving me more and more reasons to give up on them.

Funny thing is, I sold a Dsi, and still managed to get software from it, a few years later.
