possible to create a homebrew that allows CPU/GPU overclocking for the switch to eliminate or reduce frame drops while undocked?

There is an option in devmenu that allow CPU overclocking, you can try that if you want, but i highly suggest not to do it.

I'm hoping for a hack that tricks the system into running the docked profile while portable. It's the rare docked game that's +720p, and there's an internal downscaler anyway (for output to 720p TVs)

To be honest im sure its possible but its not really recommended.

There have been many articles of heat issues and warping just using the dock mode boosting.

Use devmenu at your own risk

That option doesn't work, it just freezes devmenu if you try to enable it (I tried with 5.1.0 hekate layeredFS)

any examples of undocked games running +720p?

Isn't part of the reason docked mode shuts off the screen to get more thermal headroom to raise the clock?

The screen will be drawing some power, but I doubt it has any appreciable impact on thermals.

It'd *hammer* the battery of course to be running at docked clocks unplugged, but that wouldn't be an issue if it's plugged into a full-power USB-C.
