Is there a overclocking guide for us noobs?

I specifically want to know how to overclock in retroarch mupen64. I want core specific speeds, If possible. I am not sure how to adjust speeds in retroarch for a specific core, and if i did, i wouldnt know what speeds are safe (cpu, gpu, mem)
