Okay, no one is helping me at xboxscene...

Long story short, I swapped DVD drives to get a working console.

Now I learn that you need the original DVD drive keys to spoof the newer/replacement DVD drive. I don't have the original keys...

Can anyone help me please? I get the Please insert game into the XBOX 360 console error.

Am I somehow able to extract the keys from the console??

If you have not updated the xbox since August the 11th 2009 and it was made before mid June 2009 you can run homebrew and dump the keys that way. It will not be overly simple but it is not that bad.

It will be easier to find the keys on the original drive though- if you can get that then it is possible to guide you through that.

If you can not do either then your console will be set playing DVDs and games on demand titles.

I'm pretty sure it hasn't been updated since and was manufactured in 06. I can't get the old keys.

Are you able to point me in any direction or will I be told to google "how to extract keys from xbox 360 console"?

Sorry I should have linked that up.

Easy way:
You need to do the JTAG hack.
http://www.free60.org/JTAG_Hack
Background reading: http://forums.xbox-scene.com/index.php?showtopic=698328 http://forums.xbox-scene.com/index.php?sho...703757&st=0

However rather than using Xell I suggest Xellous ( http://www.xbins.org/nfo.php?file=xboxnfo1782.nfo and http://www.xboxhacker.org/index.php?topic=13876.0 )
Once Xellous is running it has an HTTP server inbuilt, with this you can then simply dial up your 360 on your home network (or wherever it happens to be running) and grab the keys from there (check the NFO for xellous as you will probably have static IPs assigned).

Harder way is everything is encrypted with the CPU key, you get the key as part of the NAND hack and work backwards from there.

After you have the key it is then a case of flashing the DVD drive using this new key, there are countless guides but http://jungleflasher.net/downloads.html is pretty good.

Sidenote: there is also the option of setting the DVD key on the 360 side of things to match the key of the DVD drive, I do not suggest doing this unless you are well versed in 360 hacking.

I will definately look into all that info you gave me. I seriously can't thank you enough!!

I will most deffiantely run into problems but I hope as much as you that I don't need to post in this thread again.

I have never hacked a 360 before so those links are again appreciated.

Just to let you know, I have 2 consoles. 1 was unmodded and registered online. 2nd I bought modded (iXtreme 1.5??) RROD which I fixed.

2nd one the drive started to play up (open and close intermittently and not read ANY DVD).
I swapped drives (not checking the reading of discs) and sent the 1st one away for RROD (with the faulty DVD drive).

They replaced it so no way of getting the keys. I'm determined to nut this one out!!

EDIT: Turns out I'm stuffed... I'm on update: 2.0.8955.0

EDITEDIT: Okay. Would someone mind explaining this guide to me: http://www.infectus.biz/tutorial-ibl-en.php ??

I gather Gentoo is some sort of Linux distro and you need homebrew/Linux on your 360 first? So: 2/ Launch Cd live de Gentoo Beta 2 (don't work with the Beta 1 means launch it from your console??

I'm trying to get the DVD key without modchips ATM. Although I'll need one to flash the DVD dvrive anyway...

Sorry, there's not really anything you can do. If your 360 is not JTAG-able and you no longer have access to the original drive, you're out of luck AFAIK.

But, if I can get the DVD key from the mainboard, can't I spoof the DVD drive with that??

Or inject the DVD key frmn the drive I've got into the mainboard?

I'll need JTAG and/or InFectus, though.

You can't get the key from the board. To retrieve it from the board, the box needs to be exploitable, your box is not, so you can't get the key.

Is that because of the update version? It's DOM is '06.

I have NFI if it's Jasper or whatever. I'll have to look into that.

According to this: http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=901401 it's a Xenon.

It's because its been updated to 8955. It doesn't matter what revision board it is, once you go to the 8XXX dash, the console is no longer exploitable.
