In this review, it says something about the saves I'm wondering about...

QUOTE said:
Cons:
- The card's performance is highly microSD dependant.
- No freebies in the box (MicroSD card reader not included...)
- Unpolished save system: relies on a database (ndsinfo.dat) to decide which save type to use with every single rom. With fairly recent roms, frustration is around the corner because you'll have to guess the correct save type.
- Does no detect save types properly, as a consequence it relies on the manufacturer's updates, thus not future proof.
- Patch mode and soft reset (L+R+SELECT+START) are incompatible, you can't use both at the same time (using current firmware).
- A chip which pops out of the casing, makes inserting/ removing the card a tad tougher if you don't remove it gently
- No real-time saves, one has to reboot for the save to be written to microSD.
- 8 character save files, can be confusing when dealing with regional dupes or roms with quite similar names (anything after 7th character is replaced by ~)
- A few bugs are yet to be fixed, such as the boot I/O error
- Critical bug: the OS wipes all savegames on the microSD card if it happens to be full!

Is this now fixed via a firmware update? Or is this still the same? I'm looking for a card that can play Homebrew really well (playing regular DS ROMs are just a bonus, I'm not into that scene massively) and while the Super Card looks great, that feature really irks me. Having to restart just to save...lame.

If it isn't fixed, is there another card out there (preferably slot-1 based, but w/e) that will play homebrew exceedingly well?

EDIT: Come to think of it, are ANY of the features fixed? A lot of them don't sound very user friendly... Why does having to search for a flash card be so difficult T__T

I should add though, that if you want to play Portrait of Ruin you will need a fast micro sd card. Many recommend ones made in Japan, Kingston, or Toshiba brand. But this isnt just for the Supercard, I have read that R4 owners also need a fast card to play Castlevania.

I saw that on the Wiki, but thanks for pointing it out nonetheless. Chances are I won't want to play PoR anyway, but I might get a really fast Micro SD Card anyway.

Are there any decent retailers, that use paypal, that sell Kingston or Toshiba Made in Japan Micro SD cards?

yay

congratulations, now all you need is a micro sd card and your set.

Did you get the new supercard or the old one. Id be pissed if I got the old one. I have the old one and it works perfectly fine but if I could wait a week to get a new one id wait.

Theres no difference between the two, thats been said in the actual topic, just the aesthetics have changed. Just get the cheapest i always say.

Haha, don't worry, I got the new one
