I was wondering, how many Switch games are there that go below 720p resolution-wise?
Can you name some? Are the games still worth playing?
I have noticed that this usually affects 3D-heavy titles and have personally witnessed it in:

- Xenoblade Chronicles 1 to 3
- Witcher 3
- Tales of Vesperia
- Mutant Year Zero
- Hogwarts Legacy

Which titles can you name?

Are you talking about docked or handheld mode? In handheld, games that actually hit 720p are somewhat rare, especially if you consider dynamic resolution forcing games to go under that figure.

In handheld mode, I can think of first party and second party titles that can go under quite easily:
- All Splatoon games (3 is more likely to hit 720p at times, 2 tends to run at very low resolutions and still drop frames)
- Metroid Prime Remastered (fixed 600p)
- Kirby and the Forgotten Land (dynamic resolution IIRC)
- Super Mario Odyssey (640x720, basically horizontal interlacing in handheld, looks quite bad)
As for other games that I'd consider notable with their resolution, NieR: Automata drops below 720p at times in handheld, but mostly sticks to it and same applies to FAST RMX, although that depends on the track and the selected camera angle. Doom 3 uses dynamic resolution, and will drop in selected scenes, especially outside of the main campaign.
Ports of newer id tech games tend to run at very low resolutions and heavily rely on TAA to get acceptable image quality, but I never grabbed any of these, as I'd consider them unplayable with their performance levels. Fortnite runs at extremely low resolutions too, it's hard to see what's going on in handheld mode, but pixel counts will depend on the patch and would require you to set up scenarios where you intentionally break TAA to get a sharp edge.

@Tofu_mommy awesome reply! thanks for all the details!

I had no idea about Mario Odyssey, Kirby and Metroid!
I actually thought those games looked good

@Tofu_mommy do you have any info on "Outer Worlds" patch 1.0.5?
Because that one looked really bad at release, very blurry, but now with patch 1.0.5 it looks great!

Is there a way to find out these internal resolution figures on the console? Or does it need expert analysis?
EDIT: Yes! This was added in Salty-NX 0.9 and can be viewed using the Status Monitor overlay.

There might be some way with a modded system, but normally you'd have to get frames from the game in scenarios where TAA breaks and doesn't attempt to clean up the edges, as in a perfect scenario it works like supersampling.
