Normal attacking is automatic, meaning once you press B and enter battle mode (and you're close enough to hit something), it will automatically attack in intervals.
You enter battle mode, and the rest is automatic. Your agility affects how fast you attack, I believe. You also can use techs once you learn them with the Y button.
