I have just brought back a Wii U from Japan and tried to hack it to be able to change region and use CFW.

I followed the excellent guides from FunkyScott47 and others and:
1) Installed Aroma (and backed up NAND)
2) Installed isfsxhax and launched into Minute
3) Changed region from Japanese to European (including changing the sys.prod file)
4) Launched from Minute and got to Wii U menu in English
5) Set up internet connection and created new profile in English

After changing the region, I had the black screen with error code 160-0101 show up once or twice, but a reboot fixed it and let me continue.

However, after finishing the profile creation, I now get the same error code every time I try to boot from the Minute menu.

I am using a branded SD card that has not been used for anything else before. It is formatted correctly.
I have not yet tried to connect a USB drive.

Does anyone know how to proceed from here?

And here are a few screen-shots of the folder structure on my SD card, in case that helps.

Mabye you forgot to delete the wafel_setup_mlc.ipx when the guide told you to.

Thanks for the suggestion.

I just tried to delete it but I still get the same result - i.e. stuck on loading screen for about 1 minute and then the black screen with error 160-0101

I recommend you do the rebuild again and then delete it when you are supposed to

So just to be clear, I used the guide below for changing the region.
As far as I can see, only step 9 mentions deleting the wafel file (and it seems optional) - is that the step you were refering to?
And by 'do the rebuild again', do you mean these 10 steps? Or do I also need to redo something for ISFSHax?

Region Changing

  1. Boot up the console.
    • If it doesn't put you into the minute menu, make sure ISFSHax is installed.
  2. Navigate to Backup and Restore.
  3. Select Erase MLC, then press EJECT to proceed.
    • If it tells you erasing the MLC isn't allowed, make sure ISFShax is installed.
  4. Select Delete scfm.img then press EJECT to proceed.
    • If it gives you a warning that it may brick the console, do not continue and install ISFShax.
  5. Go back to the main menu, then select Patch (sd) and Boot IOS (slc).
  6. If the LED is blinking blue, the setup has begun. It will complete when the LED is solid blue again.
  7. Power off and move your SD card back to your PC.
  8. Check the wafel_setup_mlc.log file on the root and make sure there were no errors (everything should have 00000000)
    • SetInitialLaunch will have returned 1.
    • If Set Region to X returned error FFFBFFEE, follow the "Fixing sys_prod.xml manually" section now.
  9. If everything is correct, you can delete the wafel_setup_mlc.ipx from wiiu/ios_plugins.
  10. Reinsert your SD card and boot the console back up. You should then see the Initial Setup screen. Well done, You have region changed your console!

Region Changing

  1. Boot the console.
    • If it does not automatically go into minute_minute, go install isfshax.
  2. Navigate to Backup and Restore.
    • If it tells you MLC Erase not allowed, go install isfshax.
  3. Go back to the main menu and select Patch (sd) and boot IOS (slc).
    • During the setup you won't use the screen and stay at the GO GO GO minute message. You have to go by the power led.
  4. Wait for the LED to start blinking blue, this means the setup has started. Wait for it to stop blinking, that is when the setup has finished.
  5. Shut off the console and put the SD back into your PC.
  6. Delete the wafel_setup_mlc.ipx file from sd:/wiiu/ios_plugins.
    • SetInitialLaunch will have returned 1.
    • If Set Region to X returned error FFFBFFEE, follow the "Manually fixing the sys_prod" section now.
    • Otherwise boot the console again (select Patch (sd) and boot IOS (slc), and you should be greeted with initial setup). Success!

Here it says "Delete the wafel_setup_mlc.ipx file from sd:/wiiu/ios_plugins"

And yes I am refereing to these steps

I see your guide is a little better than the one I followed.
I did as you suggested, ran through the steps again and made sure to delete the wafel file before rebooting.
It worked!

Thank you very much for the help :)

Hi sorry to jump in on this post. Im having the same issue, except when i look for the wafel_setup_mlc.ipx it seems to be automatically deleted, but the wii always boots to the minute menu.

So everything is working as expected. You can now boot it and configure the autoboot if you want.
