Hacking Stub IOS

I've modded my 4.2K Wii (DOP-Mii to patch IOS36. Hackmii to get HBC, and Waninoko to cISO) but after a certain point every IOS or cIOS I try to patch turns into a stub. I've stopped touching anything other than the cIOS's but I can no longer get most homebrew or the hdd loaders to work properly. Repatching cIOS's doesn't work (even after I've removed the stubs) as the new install is simply another stub. I've tried googling but couldn't find a solution. What is causing this and how can I fix it?

Thanks for the help.

Are you using a cios installer in to install them or you just using dop-mii?
Also are you using online or offline install if your using a cios installer

Use any title deleter to remove ios 249 That will get rid of any stub or sure then install
it using cios installer.

Then in dip-mii it should say which version you have v19 is the latest I think it's in the top right corner when you select ios249

Thats actually my problem. I've used Dop-mii, anytitledeleter, and WAD Manager, but its when I try to write an IOS/cIOS that it creates a stub. I can't patch anything now because it would irreversibly break that IOS. The only thing that doesn't break is when I trucha patch IOS36.

To clarify, Dop-Mii is telling me that the "installed version is a STUB." While other programs (including MMM) don't say so, I'm assuming that this must be the problem given that several different iso's are black screening (in a number of different loaders).

Dop-Mii (and I think MMM as well) can only install official IOS versions. And as nintendo only ever released official stubs for cIOS249, it won't be able to install it.

Wad manager can install the cIOS if you have it in wad form, but it's probably best to use the cIOS installer, like muck chucker suggested (here's a link to rev17 of that installer). Just make sure the 249 slot is EMPTY before running it (in other words: first delete the stub IOS249 with Dop-Mii or MMM).

You've misunderstood; Any method installs a stub. Whatever was causing the issue was fixed though once I restored a NAND backup.

Eventhough the New 3DS XL is more powerful, I still feel like the DS Lite was a more polished system. It's a real shame that it never got an XL variant keeping the GBA slot. You'd have to go on AliExpress and buy an ML shell to give a DS phat the unofficial "DS Lite" treatment, and that's the best we'll ever get I'm afraid.

The phat model had amazingly loud speakers tho.

@Jayro, I don't see whats so special about the DS ML, its just a DS lite in a phat shell. At least the phat model had louder speakers, whereas the lite has a much better screen.

It's a DS Lite in a slightly bigger DS Lite shell.

    It's not a Nintendo / iQue official product, it's a 3rd party custom.

Nothing special about it other than it's more comfortable than the Lite

@SylverReZ if you could find a v5 DS ML you would have the best of both worlds since the v5 units had the same backlight brightness levels as the DS Lite unlockable with flashme

A woman with no arms and no legs was sitting on a beach. A man comes along and the woman says, "I've never been hugged before." So the man feels bad and hugs her. She says "Well i've also never been kissed before." So he gives her a kiss on the cheek. She says "Well I've also never been fucked before." So the man picks her up, and throws her in the ocean and says "Now you're fucked."

anyways, we need to re-normalize physical media

if i didn't want my games to be permanent, then i'd rent them

Agreed, that why I try to buy all my games on disc, Xbox anyways. Switch games (which I pirate tbh) don't matter much, I stay offline 24/7 anyways.
  • AncientBoi @ AncientBoi:
    I don't pirate them, I Use Them :mellow:. Like I do @BigOnYa 's couch :tpi::evil::rofl2:

@BakerMan - you can still "own" digital media, arguably easier and better than physical since you can make copies and backups, as much as you like.

    The issue is DRM
  • cearp @ cearp:
You can buy drm free games / music / ebooks, and if you keep backups of your data (like documents and family photos etc), then you shouldn't lose the game. but with a disk, your toddler could put it in the toaster and there goes your $60

    :rofl2:
  • cearp @ cearp:
still, I agree physical media is nice to have. just pointing out the issue is drm
