I'm curious to know as well. If it doesn't I might get it on cartridge instead of the eshop. The longer I can put off upgrading to a DSTWO the better.

I have no idea, i don't think they can force you to do anything, but if you want to play then yes you will have to update as usual. This is not something new.

While we are on the topic of games making you update, what happens if a person genuinely does NOT have wifi to update? Unless I go over to McDonald's or something..... O___o I personally think it is kinda crappy if they did that. However, if they only force you to update if you want to play online, then it's a different story I guess. :\

Or is the update itself stored within the cart?

When the PSP used to do that, I believe that the firmware was also packaged with the game.

So I assume Nintendo would have employed something similar? At any rate, I know that when it tells you to update via spotpass, it already downloads the firmware update.
