Does the new paper mario update firmware to 4.4?

I'm curious to know as well. If it doesn't I might get it on cartridge instead of the eshop. The longer I can put off upgrading to a DSTWO the better.

I have no idea, i don't think they can force you to do anything, but if you want to play then yes you will have to update as usual. This is not something new.

While we are on the topic of games making you update, what happens if a person genuinely does NOT have wifi to update? Unless I go over to McDonald's or something..... O___o I personally think it is kinda crappy if they did that. However, if they only force you to update if you want to play online, then it's a different story I guess. :\

When the PSP used to do that, I believe that the firmware was also packaged with the game.

So I assume Nintendo would have employed something similar? At any rate, I know that when it tells you to update via spotpass, it already downloads the firmware update.

You're right about that. I believe at one point my wifi was broken but the game was still trying to make me update.

Of course it didn't ask you to update if you got it off the eShop, you have to already have the latest firmware.
