which one should i get 1 or 2 do i need to play one to understand 2

it may be good to get one 1st
besause

you can get 1
then
all the choices you made in 1 can be loaded in 2
then
when 3 come out

all the choices you did in 2(and what happen in 1) can be loaded 3


stuff will be different depending on the choices you made

Yeah you should play Mass Effect first. Some say it's better than the sequel.

Coulda skipped 1. You don't really miss anything except a bit of story, but it's not great regardless and i'm pretty sure 2 has a summary.

2 has vastly superior gameplay, and that's the main reason to play ME.
