hey temp people, i'm having an issue with star overdrive

i downloaded it last night, update and all from the tinfoil shop, started playing everything was fine and dandy. closed it down and went to bed.

this morning when i tried to play it, it told me i need to connect to the internet to check if i can play the software.

everything i have is up to date as well as sig patches being up to date.

any help would be greatly appreciated

Well in your case it is probably has to do with sig patches, if it is not up to date it will cause this check to see if you can play the software.

how do you mean ? i've had this same exact SD and modded oled for almost a year now, i always keep everything up to date, the fw, the sigpatches, you name it

Well generally you suppose to h2testw the card before using the card, as for what going on, you either have a bad dump of the game, or sig patches/sys patches causing your problem here leading to the check to see if the game can be played.

i'll try another dump of the game from somewhere else to see if that's the issue

same issue. launched game first time and played ended up doing a reboot at some point and game asked for further validation as to if i owned the content. seemed odd so i checked the block list and noticed i wasnt blocking nintendo servers, i had a host file set to block said servers and noticed game replaced my host file. set 90dns which kept the servers from being reactivated, but then the issue turned from an online validation check into the game becoming corrupt. for example i can play, close open go to another game over and over until i reboot my cfw, which then the game becomes corrupt and i have to completely delete and reinstall the game. in my opinion this is a drm solution from developers with the game being exclusive to switch at launch.

Edit: running 19.0 cfw, with eshop base game plus update 1.05 and dlc, haven’t tested base game by itself.

The base game (no updates or DLC) has the same issue. Once installed you have to reinstall if you reboot the switch. Files were verified using NSC builder.

I used Tinfoil to dump the game and re-run it though NSC builder to see if it would be corrupt. The hash verified but it was missing the ticket. I'm guessing Tinfoil rips it out when you dump it.

I'm wondering if the game has some kind of time bomb where it tries to reach out to the internet after the system has been rebooted?

After doing some research this looks like it has to do with sig patches/sys patches. (based off other games that had the same problem). I'm not on current firmware. I tired updating sys patch by itself and it broke everything. Ill mess with it later.

I used the latest hats pack and updated my fw to 19.0.1. Still does the same thing. If someone says it works fine for them then I will completely wipe my sd card and start over.

I’m using latest sys-patch, as well as latest sig patches as backup if somehow sys-patch doesn’t apply, I agree with your assessment that there may be a “time bomb” and having dumped the files there was also an error upon reinstall with the ticket, causing me to install from source (using an eshop) and I don’t think that wiping your sd card will assess the situation. I’ll have to obtain from different source to do more testing.

I just tried the Japan version 01001E20203DC000. It was a cart dump that i converted to nsp. It doesn't have this problem.

All sources online (that i could find) are the same copy for USA version
SHA-256 E762868D82DA7B8707B33E438F2DA2EDB41091A792DABDE4FD896A240356D716

Probably need a dump of the cart and not the eshop version or whatever has been going around.

The game itself doesn't corrupt. If you have Tinfoil reinstall only the key, it goes back to working.

The nsp i mentioned above has the issue. I'm not sure who released it or how they got it. I know the Japan version AND the USA version of the cartridge doesn't have this issue. If your using the one I found then you will have to keep the image on the sd card and have tinfoil reinstall the the ticket only every time you reboot.

Try uninstalling and reinstalling using DBI. I had a different game do the same thing and DBI managed to fix the ticket.
