    Hi,

I have modded my Wii U, but not 100% successfully. I can play gamecube back ups perfectly with Nintendont, but I haven't been able to get a USB loader working successfully/consistently yet (ive got 2 wii games to run twice only, but 99.9% of the time it fails). I click on usb loader or wii loader, select a game (never displays the cover, even though I downloaded them), then it returns to homebrew screen.

Recently I put in my genuine splatoon disc, never having played it before. It freezes on the first screen, and you can't press any buttons or exit to the wii u menu when you press home. I am not sure if my machine needs an update of some sort (its 5.3.2 splatoon bundle), but I am nervous to try and download any updates as I haven't been able to get usb loader or wii loader to work consistently (which makes me nervous to try and spoof to 5.5, to avoid system updates).

ANy advice as to how to correct the freeze while loading the game is appreciated.

To play your Splatoon disc online you will have to spoof to 5.5.1

    Spoofing won't affect vwii

Thanks but not trying to play online. Just want to play 2 player local with my son. It freezes on the first screen displayed, so you don't get to any options menu's. I mentioned the problem that I have with loading wii games by USB Loader just in case that might be what the problem is (ie maybe I stuffed something up when I modded the WII U, and maybe that's effecting wii u titles. But my understanding is the wii and wii u are separate, and if I did shag something it would only effect wii titles only not wii u. But I am a novice, so I don't really know)

Have you installed even one cIOS on your vWii? If so, that could be causing issues.

Yes, what he said. If you followed a wii mod guide instead of vwii guide it will hork your wii u. There are threads that explain how to fix that in here.

    Thanks for the help.

I followed a guide on this site. http://gbatemp.net/threads/beginner...me-backups-and-homebrews-on-wiiu-vwii.388448/

It had these steps that mention cIOS

"- Follow a guide explaining how to install the latest "d2x cIOS" (installing a cIOS is mandatory to install backup launchers), like this one or this one (in french).

    - Follow a guide explaining how to install a backup launcher like WiiFlow or USB Loader GX, like this one or this one (in french)."

I did the above steps, first installing d2x cIOS, and then the second procedure which was very similar (the link is dead it seems, so I can't show you what exact steps I followed. but from memory it involved extracting 3 files off the Wii U, renaming them slightly, and putting them in the root of the SD card, and then running the cIOS installer again. I still have the 3 files I extracted in a folder just in case I need them again. 00000001-0000003a - IOS58 v6432.wad, 00000001-00000038 - IOS56 v5918.wad, 00000001-00000039 - IOS57 v6175.wad). I thought I had followed the procedure verbatim, but it was a while ago. From memory, the procedure was a little unclear as to the files that I needed to extract, so I hope those 3 are correct.

I am sorry to be a pain, but could someone link what procedure I should use to correct the problem? I am not sure which thread I should be following. All my other wii u titles work fine, but when splatoon failed I am a bit reluctant to buy any newer titles in case I encounter the same issue.

    All advice is appreciated

Thanks. Unfortunately we haven't been able to play it even once, so I don't think I have a save game to fiddle with. If only there was a video store that rented games around my area, I could go and get another copy to make sure its definitely my wii U (I have had a dead wind waker disc that always came up as invalid, and a replacement worked fine). Unfortunately video stores are going the way of the dodo in Australia and probably everywhere else

I use wiiflow, the only game that fails was the driver parallel (for some reason cars stops working after 3~5 minutes)

Does anyone have any advice as to how I can confirm whether the problem I am having is a result of my modding, or whether its an needing an update, or just the disc. I will try and get a hold of another splatoon disc from somewhere and see what happens. I suppose I can always go in and buy a 2nd one, test it, and then return it in exchange for DK tropical freeze or Twilight Princess :)

Assuming it is a result of a faulty cIOS installation, what procedure should I use to correct it? Do I just repeat the original cIOS installation, and hope that whatever mistake I made last time is not repeated? I can play gamecube titles no problems, and play genuine wii discs no problems, which is more than enough. So i am ok with erring on the side of caution rather than risk a brick. Just a shame I have a genuine wii u game my boys cant play, plus the uncertainty of whether newer wii u titles like Mario Maker or Zelda TP may fail

Again, thanks for all comments. Cheers

Probably, you'd be better off deleting your cIOS's if the problem keeps up. (Only cIOS's, no legitimate IOS's. Just so you know!)

I wanted to post some links for you.
I'm on my phone and it's a little hard to get the results I'm looking for. Belive me I tried!

See if you can find some posts from @Onion_Knight . He's helped a few people in your exact situation.
