I saw Tears of the Kingdom now uses QR codes to share constructs and was immediately reminded of Cubic Ninja.

On a similar note, with the joycons attaching via magnets, it would be really hilarious if we saw the return of magnethax for Switch 2!

That being said, it's very unlikely. I doubt we'll find any hacks or exploits aside from soldering in a modchip. We might not even be that lucky.

I don't think it will be hacked within the first 5 years if ever at all.
I don't know why people here are expecting emulators or modchip to come before any form of soft hacking either.
This isn't gen6 and older consoles anymore, where you chipped the console just to get around badly made, hardwired protections made inhouse because of NIH syndrome.
Without exploits you can't dump any executable binaries/games, without them you have no idea how to reproduce the system, therefor you can't build an emulator.
Similarly, without knowledge of how the OS works, you can't build a modchip since these require a firmware to overwrite partially the original boot payload. Which, you've guessed it, can't reproduce it if you haven't dumped it to know how it works.

This is on the same level of difficulty as hacking a PS4/PS5 that has no web browser. Well, more specifically, no javascript JIT, but 99% of exploits are for the JIT anyway.

Asking the very same question. As much as I'd love a 1.0.0 switch 2 in my basement I can't afford it. So I reckon I'll wait until something washes up on shore.

Its not impossible for a software exploit to appear in all honesty but not for years. It's far more likely as others said to be a chip.

I'm just wanting to figure out where and how to effectively keep up to date if any of this comes around. I'd buy a switch the day someone can load just even a simple hello world message. Right now, I'm dissatisfied with what Nintendo offers with costs mostly. Plus, anyone with a hacked switch probably sees the support is still somewhat there, for now minus a few titles.

I expect Bravely Default HD to use the same save file format as the 3DS version, could this be an entry point? PS5 .lua save files from JP games have proven to be a vulnerability.

For people going to the Switch 2 experience events in the next two months prior to the actual release, is there anything useful they could actually check/do to help research while being hands on?
I'm sure until someone purchases one to disassemble and play with, there's not a whole lot to do, but just curious if there's any basic things to try/do.

Of course not being as obvious to the event reps like "Oh this? I always keep a usb digital microscope and precision tri-wing screwdriver set in my pocket. Don't mind me...." 🥷😅🥷

I don't think so. New games, new system, new encryption keys, and game cards don't even hold games anymore; they're now "key cards".
If that is the case I would NEVER buy a game anymore from nintendo. y ou own nothing and be happy? GTFO

So switch 2 physical games are just blank cartridges that will enable an online download. That will force you keep the system on latest firmware inorder to play current games. Just for that, the Switch 2 has be hacked! Hate this overpriced digital only anti consumer bullshit!
THE FU CK? and they dare charge you even 10 dollar more for it? ARE WE ACCEPTING THIS NONSENSE?

1st party games and many 3rd party like Cyberpunk 2077 have regular cartridges with game data on them. So far key cards have only been confirmed for Bravely Default and Street Fighter.

By the way, I wonder if the key cards include Denuvo Tokens as both Square and Capcom have regularly used this DRM in their Steam games. Sega may also put it on Yakuza 0 as they have a lifetime deal.

I think it will be hacked and emulated almost immediately because the tariffs incentivize hacking and emulation. People will be very motivated to to hack their systems with the increased cost of everything. I predict piracy on the Switch 2 will end up being more common than on the Switch. When you take money out of the hands of regular people through insane tariff costs then you incentivize alternative methods for acquiring things.

strange how the original hacker worked out the paper clip trick.
be interesting to read the back story

anyway do you think its likely it will be hackable? most if not all nitnendo machines have been hacked right?

I don't know if it'll be hacked or not, but the dislike many people have of Nintendo's business practices, plus the news about game prices, will certainly push (even more) some of the community to give Nintendo an even bigger middle finger by trying to hack their console.

On top of that, Nintendo games are often of very high quality so a lot of people want to play their games.

I imagine there is some Switch to Switch 2 transfer going on, wonder if they'll be an exploit there, from a modded switch to a switch 2, maybe some hacked save that could do something *shrugs* guess we wait and see.

Even if that were to work for a game. I imagine that would also be an imminent ban and unlikely someone has the capability to transfer multiple times over to test this. I could be wrong though. Guess, if I got banned for sake of Homebrew I wouldn't necessarily care a lot given the benefits on the other side.

I’ll definitely miss custom theming and Mission Control... Using the DualSense on Switch is the best! I think or hope the support for homebrew will be added soon as switch 1. I think piracy will delay a year or two.

PS
Which accounts or sources would you recommend to stay updated with scene news and in-depth info about the new console during its release week — and beyond?

So far the most interest on hacked consoles are from Nintendo. I'm not putting on the table if they're the "easiest" ones though, that's out of my discussion.

I will say that Switch 2 will be hacked as the Switch did back then, I'm not stating exactly "the-how", or "when", but it will be hacked.

Nintendo consoles/games have so much players and that's the main reason for it to attract so much attention upon them. Also, imho, the best exclusive games are on Nintendo consoles too, so...
