OK! The cat's out the bag! Here's the step by step guide.

To unlock the GBAtemp Mascot character in Mario Kart DS perform the following easy steps:[*]Boot Mario Kart DS while holding both trigger buttons with your pinky fingers (IMPORTANT!),[*]Slide along the touch screen from the top left to the bottom right corners (might be easier to use your thumb as you must still be holding the triggers with your pinkies!)[*]When the title screen appears, using your thumbs, tap both the left directional button and A button to the title screen music beats,[*]When the music loops over, you can stop tapping and holding the triggers,[*]Now close the DS screen shut and re-open it 5 times, (and 1 more for luck!),[*]Now shutdown and restart the game, check the available racers in the menus, and you'll see a nice surprise!
