Sonic 14 doesn't do it justice. It is a "boom" in a way, so we should keep calling it Sonic Boom. Helps overcome the trauma I experienced in the year 2006, as well. :)

Really though, for what it is, it's OK. Not awful. OK. :D

You're very forgiving with this game, that's something not a lot are and it really is a terrible "game" if you can call it that.

I honestly haven't touched Sonic since the DreamCast and Genesis days.

The new games kinda suck IMHO

You have the 2D ones where you literally hold the right button until you reach the end, and the 3D ones where you just watch the character pick up boosts and run on his own, occasionally moving from side to side

The Sonic DC games are pretty 'meh' too so that's nothing special but hey, you definitely should give Sonic Generations a go it's by far the best Sonic game to date.

I surmise that without Sonic, this game is equal in quality to any other commercial 3D platforming game by American developers. I remember Crash Bandicoot being full of bugs, too. (Can't say Naughty Dog is known for bug-free games.)

This is definitely not the worst platformer by Sega. I think Billy Hatcher and the Giant Egg is a far bigger failure than this gaem. Sega can make platformers other than Sonic that are good (see: Ristar).

I don't remember ever having any glitch/bug issues with Crash Bandicoot or Billy Hatcher's, the thing is that this game's selling point is glitching it rather than playing it "properly".

Sonic 14 is an interesting "game" to find glitches anywhere and everywhere on the Wii U platform.

And you know what, it's actually fun. Makes you play the game to see if you can find a new glitch and explore things left hidden by the developer. That said, I let my 12-year-old sister play the game and she liked it. There was only one instance of glitching during her playthrough. She simply reset the Wii U, thinking the console was at fault. After that, she completed the game. Very commendable effort from her and I watched her play the game, it was fun! For myself, wanting to 100% everything, I run into the glitches more often. It's not as broken as many think. You find the glitches when you look for them for the most part. :o

Well, you're right about that it's probably a lot more fun glitching the game and finding out unused areas than the actual game itself, to be honest, while playing the demo I was more interested on glitching to other areas of the demo than finishing it. Unfortunately, wherever I tried to land that was like a hologram because the character kept falling off the stage.

Yet again this Sonic Wii U game makes the same mistake as Lost World did, that is, it's only playable with the Wii U GamePad-only why the fuck isn't the Pro Controller usable? Sonic Boom doesn't even make use of motion controls by the looks of it, it's more of a traditional (shitty, broken) adventure game than anything else.

Oh hey, here's Zero Punctuation's review of Sonic Boom:

I wonder if Nintendo's partnership for the exclusivity has something to do with that. Both games were, after all, funded by Nintendo and exclusive to the Wii U (and 3DS).

their partnershipis over now isn't it? maybe they'll be able to make a decent game now.

Yes. AFAIK, Nintendo and Sega partnered for a total of three exclusive games (not counting separate versions for 3DS). All three so far have been total garbage:

1. Mario & Sonic at the Sochi 2014 Olympic Winter Games
2. Sonic Lost World
3. Sonic Boom

Mario & Sonic 2014 is definitely the worst title in its series. Considering even Wii Sports Club is a better advancement on the Wii U compared to Wii Sports on the Wii, there's little you can say when Mario & Sonic 2014 on the Wii U is worse than Mario & Sonic 2012 on the Wii.

Now, some people actually like Sonic Lost World. I don't. The parkour gameplay was not well executed and the "Deadly Six" were complete and utter crap. Level design and graphics in Lost World is good, but controls and overall theme IMO make it a broken game just a tiny bit better than Sonic '06.

Sonic Boom. I don't even. (It's still an OK game, I stand by that.)

Sega needs to get the Sonic Team to develop Sonic Generations 2 for PS4, XO, Wii U, PC and a portable version for the 3DS.

This.

Every time Sega has tried to introduce a new mechanic or gameplay element to the Sonic series (e.g. teams in Sonic Heroes, Wisps in Sonic Colors, Werehog in Sonic Unleashed, parkour in Sonic Lost World), the game suffers from bad execution and quality to the point that it makes no sense anymore. Going back to the roots of what made Sonic games memorable and great as in the case of Sonic Generations, Sega has finally found a formula that works and which fans love.

I don't think a purely 3D Sonic game has ever been good, from the Adventure series to Sonic and the Secret Rings to garbage like Sonic '06 and Sonic Boom, strictly 3D gameplay is detrimental to the experience. Likewise, a modern 2D only Sonic game (e.g. Sonic the Hedgehog 4) doesn't work out that well either. Sonic Generations truly is the one and only way in which Sega has proven the series still has some good life left in it.

If the higher ups at Sega or Sonic Team are too stupid to realize this, then I'm afraid we're doomed (Boomed?) to another decade of sub-par Sonic games until the entire franchise fades into history much like Mega Man.

Knuckles' Tetris anyone?

Thanks, Johhny!

Watched IGN Daily Fix (I want Inside Gaming Daily back!!) and the chick said that Sonic Boom only had about 400k units sold while Lost World had 700k. I'm surprised it even sold that much.
