I have an issues with certain games booting to a black screen. They make it past the white screen saying to hold your Wiimote properly but then go to black.

I am using CFG and am on a newly modded Wii. The games I have noticed with this issue are: Donkey Kong Country Returns and Metroid Prime Trilogy (even when I select the proper .dol file).

EDIT: I am also confused about the difference between the v222 and v249 versions of CFG. Right now I am using 249. What is the best or what will provide the most compatibility/compatibility in the future?

EDIT 2: I just ran PimpMyWii and everything checks out. I should have all cIOS and IOS versions.

There is no difference, the IOS slot is hardcoded into the program for time efficiency.

What does make a difference is what you install in 222, 249, etc... The loader has little part in compatibility, while it can do things to implement new compatibility features; most of the compatibility end comes from the CIOS you use. So if there is a problem loading a game, the first thing you will have to check is: do you have a good updated IOS? CIOSx rev 20 is a good candidate to load most games effectively and efficiently.

Next, do you have a loader that utilizes your CIOS abilities? If you are using a FAT drive, GX loader is not what you want for an example. You made it obvious you are using configurable loader, so the loader is not the problem (unless its outdated majorly).

Maybe I do not understand how to choose what cIOS to load. When looking at the game settings I am choosing the IOS option. Under this menu I see these options: 247, 248, 249, 222-mload, 223-mload, 224-mload, 222-yal, 223-yal, and 250. With so many options, how do I know the correct one to choose? It seems that 249 works on nearly every other game.

I am using a WBFS formatted drive, and do have the latest update. I shouldn't have any issues with IOS or anything, as it was validated with Pimp My Wii.

Thanks so much for the help!

A lot of those IOS's aren't necessary and may have redundant causes.

Basically it works like this. Imagine a empty boxes. Literally boxes that you can put things in. Now number the boxes from 1-255. These are basically the IOS slots. You can fill the boxes with anything you want. Nintendo prefers to have a specific pattern (IOS 60,70,80 dedicated to system menu). There is nothing special about the number, they just prefer to have that system. Modifications such as CIOS's are preferred to be in 200+ categories to make sure they don't interfere with Nintendo's official IOSs.

Now that I have explained that, it would follow that you can install a certain IOS (like Hermes v4) in any slot you want. Sometimes the scene has a specific pattern like Nintendo also, so someone from the scene decided to use slot 222,223,...etc for Hermes and 249,250 for Wannin's CIOS.

Now the important stuff. The best two compatibility mixes I have seen is CIOS rev 20 (base 57) in box 249 and CIOS rev 20 (base 56) in box 248. Everything else really does not need there as they would be redundant for the cause.

The problem we have now is that, although you may be using 249 as a slot, we don't know which specific CIOS it is (Hermes, Wans) and each CIOS has it's up or downs. Not only do we not know the type, we do not know the version or revision number of it.

If you want, look for syscheck 2.0 and run that scan so we can see which CIOS's you have installed

Good expaination! BUT Hermes cios can NEVER be installed in slot 249..Only in 222,223,224,202. waninkoko mostly in 247,248,249,250 ( can be higer but the loader don't support that yet. With syscheck you still don't know wich base is used. You have to write it down or learn by heart.

Well than could I reinstall the base somehow to what versions of 222, 223, and 249 I want? (I assume these are the primary ones to use).

Further to the other answers are the games you are trying to play in region, I have this issue playing out of region games, patching the video (in the loader options) can usually solve this.

I am certain that the game I am playing is the same region as my Wii. Here are the settings I am using to boot DKR if that helps anyone:

Video: Game Default
Video Patch: Off
VIDTV: Off
Country Fix: On
Anti 002 Fix: On
IOS: 249
Block IOS Reload: Off
Alt dol: Off
Ocarina: Off
Hook Type: VBI

This happened to me on 4 different games.... and I solved the problem the same way.

No matter how many times I would put the game file on my hard drive from my laptop... the file would go to a black screen after the controller screen; however, I noticed the game would boot correctly if I ran it from a burnt disc.

Decided to just stick the disc inside the Wii and letter Configurable USB Loader install it from disc. Amazingly every game that went to black screen started working for some reason.

Might help your problem... might not.

It looks good, you are going to be mainly using IOS 249 to load games. If that doesn't work, 222 or 223 may work. Unfortunately, your custom IOS's are maxed out so I cannot really tell which ones are which bases or which type of coding you used to install it.

You can install Hermes cios in 249, it would require an offline installation using a WAD manager as herme's installer doesn't direct it there. Same thing for waninkoko's CIOS's, it's just the preference they adapted to the installer.

And how is this done? You'de have to compile the .wad yourself to make it install in a different slot. Wad managers don't give you the option.

Currently Im having success with cIOS20b installed base37(247) base56(248) base57(250) and I have rev14 installed into 249. I use Wiiflow and configure DK Country to use 248 and it boots up no prob as do most of my games (patching country strings and 002 fix ON). I know you're using a different usb loader but you should have these config options

Yep, all CIOSX slots are covered.
You could expand your choice of Cios by installing hermes Cios.

222 base 38, 223 base 37/38, 224 base 57.

All slots ( 247, 248, 249 , 250, 222, 223, 224 ) are supported by most Backuploaders.

Ps : Changing predifined slots for Waninkoko and Hermes out of the regeular options, is possible with showmiiwads.

But it's not needed and not recommended.

I do have Hermes v5 installed but have found the above mentioned cIOS's work better. I will keep Hermes just in case, but at the moment rev20b 247/248/250 and rev14 249 work just fine. Probably just a fluke due to my choice of game
