Hacking Softmodding an modchipped Wii

Hello, I just got an Wii with modchip (don't know what, don't put my hands on it yet). It's an old one I think (3.4U), I want to softmod it using Modmii to make it 4.3, play from usb and so on. I don't know if there's any problem with the modchip since I never got through one. Can I install the mods normally or the chip can fuck with anything? If its a solderless one its ok to remove, but if not, can I just cut its wires and its fine or there's some more complex procedures?

I dont think you will have a problem just leaving it in and softmodding. I installed my own wiikey on my system 5 years ago and been softmodded 3 years never had a problem no conflicts and with the added bonus of using other burned media in the drive.

Same here, I have a wiikey in my wii for about 4 years and softmod for about 3 with no conflicts what so ever. It's a bonus in my opinion as I can still pay GC backups if I want.
