Gaming softmii install tutorial?

going to install softmii on a friends wii rather than a chip but I cannot find a good tutorial anywhere all i can find are crappy youtube videos.

Is it just a wad like anything else, to be installed through the hbc or what?

can someone please point me in the right direction
