I just don't understand how anyone who has enjoyed previous Smash games could not like what they see. Probably the best and largest character roster ever in a fighting game.
Pretty simple.
They hated, or at least, didn't enjoy Sm4sh as much as, say, Melee.

So similarities will only bring a negative response.

It's similar to the COD effect. "Boo another one of them after 6 months! It sucks! it SUCKS!"

With the way some people act you would think that Sakurai Destiny 2'd the game....

'It's an original Smash game built specifically for the Nintendo Switch' (Tran, 2018)

'My overall impression was that, unsurprisingly, the game felt a little different to past Smash games...it just might just actually feel like a different game.' (Tran, 2018)

So Brawl and Smash 4 uses the Havok engine, 90% of Brawl Voice Clips for characters were reused from Brawl to 4, the 3DS version of Smash 4 straight out reuses some of the models from brawl (Link looks the same in 3DS to Brawl but looks quite different on Wii U)
HURRR DURRRR I GUESS SMASH 4 IS A PORT OF BRAWL.

Also Twilight Princess runs on the Wind Waker engine, does that means Twilight Princess is a Wind Waker port? What about Majora's Mask? is it a port of Ocarina of time?

Like Bayonetta? I'm watching the Invitational, and one of the players used Bayonetta and completely owned a Ridley player. It was disgusting, that's the word the commentators said, "disgusting." She's still crazy. They stress it's not a final version, but an E3 version.
Well ya, they constantly said that there still working on balancing. Probably the biggest reason this game isn't releasing sooner.

Dragonball Fighterz and Cyberdimension Neptunia: 4 Goddesses Online use the same engine! Obviously they must be ports!

Ducktales used the same engine as Mega Man 2... Must be a Port!

That last bit I didn't know... tell me more :o

I think for me personally what really defines it as a new game is just the core change to the core mechanics

When apparently opinion is considered fact to some people. By his defninition, and what I mentioned earlier, that means he believes MvC3 and UMvC3 is a different game, and SF4 to USF4 as well (SF4 wasn't released on the PS4, but USF4 was)
