The NESes (001) I have here were doing that from time to time. I just took them apart and did the paperclip method on the 72-pin connector. Both now work like a charm, though takes a little more effort to insert and remove a cartridge.
 
if you still haven't fixed you problem try cutting pin 4 on the 10nes chip you can check for a tuto on that on the internet its cheaper and you won't have the grey screen of death ever
