Hacking So, Basically... I shouldn't Bother Getting 1.12?

The built in Arm7 Fix can give you +1 to games. You can't trim Arm7 patched ROMs.

OBJECTION!

I've trimmed patched games and they worked fine.

Huh. R4's trimmer refused to trim them for me, and pretrimmed just ended up with an error when trying to play.

That's cause you're using that crappy R4 trimmer that doesn't know the difference between Wifi data and garbage.

use BrainTokyo's trimmer; we could call it the god of all trimmer or so to speak, but I may be over-exaggerating it.

EDIT: Was this a good time to use "OBJECTION!" ?

I didn't know it was that bad... I just used the official one because Tokyo's was under version 1.0. I thought that meant there was much room for improvement. Oh well, I'll download it.

I thought Contra 4 had problems, a friend of mine has 1.12 and Contra slows down.Â

Tell him/her to reformat and redownload the kernel.

That's what happened to me. Contra 4 kept lagging on me, so I just did what Grimalkin told me to do, and it fixed it.

I'm not saying that the new kernel is not useful, I'm just saying that fixing games with ARM7 aren't that difficult and that 1.12 just made our lives a little bit easier. But in terms of functionality nothing really happened. Maybe in game backlight adjust without cheat code support like the Cyclo can be nice.

Exactly, things like Wii connectivity and improvements to the loader and new features should be their focus, game compatibility was already 100% with 1.11, you just need to ARM7 fix a few games...

Still I'm not complaining, an update is an update and even if it just a convenience update it at least shows the R4 team is still alive.

Just update it anyways. It's much more convenient for me to drag over a file to my microSD card then to:

-decompile the .nds file
-decompile a different .nds file that works
-find the arm7 file
-replace the arm7 file
-compile the .nds file
-move the .nds file to my card

=/ There's really no point in NOT updating, much easier then patching IMHO. Worms is pretty awesome.

Trimming, Patching, what so ever, I dont give a shit.
I dont wanna bother searching online why a game does not work and what i have to do to make it work. I have the skills but my time is limited.

I download stuff, copy it to the r4 and it works.
2gb is ok for me, and i dont have money to buy a 6gb card now anyway.
So R4 is great, hopefully they fix wii connectivity soon then it ll be perfect.

Actually I think most of you guys spend more time flaming about the R4 than actually playing with it and i dot see the reason for that. Shut up flaming about R4 stupid bastared because it is best.

The R4 was able to play all games from the beginning, just that Worms and other games needed an ARM7 fix. All the R4 did was make our lives a little easier, so that we do not have to unpack and fix ourselves. But I 've heard that other games are buggy with 1.12, so just stick with 1.11 and fix the ARM7 games yourself. It's not hard.

You do realize that the manual arm7 fix breaks any wireless features, right? That is the reason the Max Crass method of getting games working on the MMD sucks (aside from the MMD itself sucking).

....

So thats all?

I wont bother then.. Until the R4 team can do something worthwhile with the updates, im not gonna bother. Thanks for your help!

Bother? Bother?!?!

Let's see, go to any one of a dozen easily accessible web sites, download the new kernel, open the rar file, copy to the microSD card and confirm overwrites... It's easier than tracking down the latest ROM you're jonsing after.

This is a bother? It's not like you're compiling a linux kernel or something...

Wireless as in Wi-Fi or DS to DS?

I assume it depends on the game, but from what I have heard in many cases it is anything involving the wireless transmitter as the arm7 wireless code is not the correct code for the ROM. It would be like trying to install a Windows driver for your network card on a Mac. Fortunately, I don't have a Max Media Dock though I will be able to borrow one from a friend who does.

Worms isn't the only game that needs ARM7, but that can be one the games that doesn't screw up. I don't have any other games that need ARM7, so I don't know if wireless breaks.

i still didnt update my M3 even if the new firmware is out. why?
because all games i wanna play work just fine. maybe the next update will convince me.

Forgive my ignorance but which current games benefit from the arm7 fix in the new kernel aside from worms - anyone care to name a few?
