I have a Korean 3DS, and I want to change the region to the North American version(Korean 3DSes don't support themes). If I change the region, are my already owned Korean games not playable? Also, if you factory reset the console will the region settings go back to my original Korean version or will it remain as the North American region?

Question. Have you already used the eshop with your current console?

Your games should still be playable since CFW is region free.
A factory reset won't change the region back.

So you want HOME Menu themes? You're in luck as this doesn't require region changing.

Homebrew theme manager:
Homebrew themes:
Official themes:
  • freeShop / CIAngel / that title site - Home Menu Themes DLC * (not sure if you can force install JPN, USA, EUR region themes on KOR 3DS).

  • that iso site - *Allegedly*, there's someone some of us may know here that maintains the official themes collection. The Internet is a big place and coincidental names happen all the time, so it's probably not him. (No one calls this person out).

Nope.

It stays as NA.

Important Note: Region changing breaks eShop, so it probably also breaks the Theme Shop, which kinda defeats the entire point of region changing. Just stick to using homebrew themes (themeplaza.eu and Anemone)

So by installing that will the theme settings in home settings appear?

Oh... I shouldn't region change my 3DS then.

Nevermind. Forget the freeShop option. Apparently, that app does not allow you to install out of region HOME Menu Themes. There's probably a way to do this through CIAngel with that title site, but I'm not familiar how it's done.

Your only option left is to find that iso site and retrieve those themes you seek. Themes installed through homebrew theme managers are placed in a folder named Themes on the SD card. You're not allowed to ask what's that exact website here due to ToS rules. Good luck in your search!

So that means that I don't have to use the official theme changing method? Also are there official themes on that iso site?

I never knew that! I better read Terms of Service right now.

(just like it doesn't patch the check in game manuals)
Actually, it now does since a couple of versions, lol

It's probably Luma that doesn't patch that region checking
There's nothing to patch here - you can't use SSB4 DLC on Mii Plaza, and you can't use European official themes on the American home launcher (all 4 pieces of software mentioned in the previous sentence are completely separate, as provable by their different titleIDs), and installing themes a 100-pack at a time from Freeshop and equivalents is rarely if ever what people want anyway!

So that means that I don't have to use the official theme changing method?
If the Korean version doesn't have the theme shop, it probably doesn't support Home DLC either, meaning you can't add themes to the official selector in the first place

When you select a theme (from the 5 integrated ones, or from the non-existing DLC) it's copied to extdata on the SD; you can use homebrews such as Themely, Anemone, etc to force a theme into that extdata, so that it will become the currently active one!

Cool! I'll try it

I tried Anemone just today, but it says that there is no Theme extdata on my console(maybe this is because Korean 3DSes don't support themes in the first place). I think I need to download or create one, but I don't know how to do it. Can you help me with this? (also sorry for replying to an old thread)
