SNES problem

I have a SNES that the player 1 control always pauses the game. player 2 control works perfectly. i replaced the port with a known working port and it does the same thing. i cant find any faults and the pins are clean. i read somewhere that it could be the cpu but i wanted other opinions. its a 1990 super nintendo.

Yes I have iv tried every combination of what I could do. New ribbon old port, old port new ribbon, new ribbon and port.

Well, need to check some SNES motherboard schematics to be sure, but it might be a damaged capacitor somewhere.

Does the SNES pad have a chip in it? I thought they did for signal conversion this could be the problem.

i would think it was that but i put both my gamepads on the snes and player 2 works fine then i switch them and the same results just player 2 works. player 1 pauses every button i press.

Ah, sorry I didn’t realise you had tried different pads in each port

Most likely it's the cpu,had a similar problem and swapping a working cpu fixed it but it's not a easy job to do.
