Hacking SMG(J) on our unknown wiikey clone?

Hi,
Since we couldnt find SMG (U) anywhere, we decided to get SMG(J) but the question is,
Would SMG(J) brick an un-updated Wii (never updated since installed) and un-updated wii-clone?

Would it help if we update the Wii online?

Yes. Definitly update online first. Also: what chip does your Wii hold?

update the clone to 1.9g or else it wont work.

what if our chip is not even a wiikey clone, and thus not updatable, will it brick our wii even if we update the wii by internets?

If you don't know what kind of chip is in your Wii, you have two options.

1. If you think it might be a Wiikey or clone, download the Wiikey update disc and try it. If it works - great! If not, you don't have a Wiikey.

2. Open up your Wii and see what chip you have, then take the appropriate steps to update your chip (if needed).

WiiCan is not a WiiKey clone. It is not updatable and will not run a backup of SMG.

If you try to run SMG(J) (original or backup) on a NTSC-U Wii with less than 3.1 firmware you will brick your Wii.
