Gaming Setting up wireless access for a building

Hi,
If I want to setup a wireless network for the entire building, what do I need and how much do they cost approximately?

The building is about 500m*500m, 2 floors. It has an existing network.

use Airport Express to make your wifi range larger

All you would need is a wireless router, I recommend a WRT54GL that's only between 30-60 USD.

You said building, not house. Are you trying to provide a service for the rest of the building? Are you charging other people?

well, you will want access points, not routers then. it is as simple as plugging in a few APs like a normal computer with an ethernet cable. however providing roaming between the various APs is rather more complicated.

Get a WRT54GL and load it up with dd-wrt. You might also want to ditch the stock aerials on the router and get one with higher gain. Should help boost the signal more that way.

well there are a few questions that have to be answered. like.

1. Is the building in a highly populated area.

if the building is in a highly populated area you may want to try wiring the building insted. Bigger populating equal more wireless interfearance. It may be cheaper in the long run to run CAT5 cable

2. how big is the building.

Most wireless router will send a signal about 150 feet with no obstrustions. Add walls, Computer that give of EMI, and florescent lights will all cut down the signal.

3. How secure do you want the network.

Wireless are very very very easy to hack.... with the right tools. If you are setting up a wireless network the first thing you should think of is how secure you want it to be. RADIUS server, Wep, Mac filter, WPA.
